Students in the Philippines

There are more than 26,000 foreigners are currently studying in various schools throughout the Philippines with South Koreans topping the list. All  those enrolled in college are holders of student visa while elementary and high-school students are issued special study permits (SSPs).

Both the student visa and SSP are issued by the BI to qualified foreign students pursuant to Section 9(f) of the Philippine Immigration Act. The South Koreans 11,612, topped the list of the foreign students, followed by 3,961 Chinese and 3,225 Iranians.

Personal view

Should I be proud of this predicament? It does show that the Philippines can be a leader in education in Asia. But what bothers me? I see millions of Filipino children who could not afford to get a decent education, and yet countries from all the world can benefits from our education system. In the end, they take everything they learned from the Philippines and use in their countries for their benefit? What does the Philippines benefit from this? Nothing.

But who am I to judge? Have your say.
