Personal view on the President SONA (Philippines)
written on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 @ 4:27 PM ?

President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino of the Philippines

Nothing against the President or the country in general.I am not sure if all of  us Filipinos around the world have tuned in to the Presidential speech. Although, I felt that he does meant good for the country, in the end it does not satisfy me. I personally did not vote for Aquino even though I was not allowed to vote since I did not stay in the country for more than a year. The President brought up all legal kinds of issues like education, wang-wang and of course to end crab mentality.

In my personal opinion, the only thing successful in Aquino's first presidential year was to the use of Wang-Wang which authorities misused to violate traffic laws and end human trafficking. Let's review the rest of his speech. I will point out which were successful and not in his first year in his first Presidential year.

1) Less hungry Pinoys: I doubt this is true. With the amount of robberies over the streets of  Manila. Children and older women begging on the street.

2) Better Economy: It is in a better shape now but for whom? The rich, the middle or the poor?

3) Cheaper Energy Source: No wonder we have light blackouts every now and then.

4)  Zero-based budgeting: He said that zero-based budgeting has help them end many wasteful programs. May I ask what programs did he have in mind in particular?

5)Taxes go to where they should: Oh really? My barangay isn't doing a good job protecting our streets. In one month alone, my neighborhood had three cars stolen. People held at gun point and robbed.

6) A more honest DPWH: A more honest DPWH? In the Philippines anything can be bought under the table. Money talks here.

7) No more importation of rice: Better said then done. Many Filipino's can't even afford a decent amount of rice.

8) Better benefits for police and military: I doubt that. Remember the bus hostage drama last year? Chinese tourists were killed and put Philippines on a bad light and listed Philippines as one of the most dangerous places in the world to visit

9) Tension in the Spratly islands: This shows how weak our country military is. Our military is the weakest in the world with World War II planes and ships protecting us. If we didn't have the United States with us, we would be no where. Why do we have to keep depending on other countries for help?

10) Human Trafficking: This was successful since the United States has recently taken off Philippines off its list of countries known for human trafficking.

11) More jobs: I doubt this would happen. With the recent earthquake in Japan, the Saudization process in Saudi Arabia and the thousands of graduates that we have each year, I doubt that we will have enough jobs for every Filipino citizen.

12) Health program of the poor: Health program? What about giving them a job and an education. What is the point of investing health benefits to the poor where they never put their bodies to good use?

13) ARMM : I have nothing against Muslims but we should really eradicate all the terrorists who use Mindanao us a safe haven. Has everyone forgoteen about the recent bus bombings early this year?

14) Flooding program: The only way to get rid of flooding is to get rid of the garbage thats blocking our sewage system. MMDA is still not doing their job right.

15) Monorail system: They always have plan to increase the system. We are always being supported and given second hand transport vehicles by other countries. Our country already has a major debt so i doubt it would be stable.

16) New Ombudsman: The person I cannot judge. His credentials will do the talking.

17) End Crab Mentality: We can't blame Pinoys for this. Nobody likes foreigners coming to their country and having a better life then our own citizens. With all this glamor of celebrities showing off their luxury and cars, what do you expect Filipinos to think? They know more about the Filipino celebrities and gossip then where their next meal is coming from!
